Dutch Open: Ashley Chesters

Wentworth was first missed cut in 7 starts but still ranked second with approaches despite driving ball uncharacteristically badly. Can bounce back quickly in a much weaker event.

I keep coming back to Ashley Chesters time again this season but i’m not hoodwinked by his accuracy and GIRs stats. These headline numbers can be misleading, after all you can hit every green going but if you are always 50foot from the flag you aren’t making many birdies.

This isn’t quite the case for Chesters. Last week at Wentworth he missed the cut, having barely found a fairway but he still managed to rank second with his approaches to the green.

Over the course of the season he ranks 61st for strokes gained total and in a field where only four players are in the top-100 of the world, that makes him one of the more likely contenders.

This is the first time Bernardus Golf hosts the Dutch Open so course form is thin on the ground but Chesters has finished 60-28-15 in this event, so there is encouragement in dispatches.
