Irish Open Tips: Michael Hoey

Has finished 7-T34-T28-T32 in the last four Irish Opens and has a great win rate on tour.

Every time I research Michael Hoey’s career I’m surprised to see he has five European Tour wins. He doesn’t feature on leaderboards every week, but he’s got an excellent conversion rate when in contention.

Hoey has the extra incentive of playing in his home championship and it is an event he’s been getting to grips with in recent years. He has finished 7-T34-T28-T32 in the last four Irish Opens and arrives in decent form.

The Northern Irishman has five top-20 finishes to his name this season and his stroke average of 71.0 is the best of his career.

The 35-year-old has been in the top-20 for GIRs in his last two tournaments but has failed to capitalise on the opportunities.

Roared on by a partisan crowd if he gets the putter going he could do some damage at 80/1 (Stan James) with 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
