Irish Open Tip: Romain Langasque

Price pushed out because he missed two cuts but medium-term view shows three top-6s in seven starts. Statistically one of the best ball-strikers on tour and won Amateur Championship on a links.

Romain Langasque is a player i’ve backed on numerous occasions this season and i’m surprised he’s a three-figure price to win the Irish Open. A lot of that has to do with the fact he’s missed the cut in his last two tournaments but scores of -1 and +1 aren’t exactly disasters and only five weeks ago he reached a career high of 128th in the world.

Statistically there is a lot to like. He is 22nd on tour in stroke average, 10th in strokes gained off the tee and 16th for GIRs. And for those of a ‘glass half-full’ persuasion he’s got three top-6 finishes in his last seven starts - I guess it depends how you cut it.

The wonderful Lahinch links should suit his game, he won the Amateur Championship at Carnoustie in 2015 and made the cut at the Open in the same year. In a good but not outstanding field, he should be nearer the 66/1 mark.
