Irish Open Tip: Paul Dunne

Record in Dunhill Links is 19-25-7 and hit headlines when leading 2015 Open Championship. Won British Masters last year so knows what it feels like to compete at the sharp end of a big tournament.

Since the Rolex Series started in 2017 the winners have been Noren, Fleetwood, Rahm, Cabrera Bello, Hatton, Rose, Grace, Rahm, F Molinari, Olesen and Noren - not a bad roll of honour. The cream has been rising to the top in these events and Paul Dunne is a player who can make that leap.

The Irishman is a player I’ve rated highly for a while now and he fulfilled that promise by winning the British Masters last season. The 25-year-old is enjoying another strong campaign and teamed up with Gavin Moynihan to win the Golf Sixes. An individual title is still missing this season but he went close at the Open d’Espana and will enjoy the test of links golf in front of a partisan crowd.

Dunne sprung to prominence when leading the Open as an amateur and has continued to play well on links/coastal venues. His record at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is 19-25-7 and he was runner-up at last year’s Trophee Hassan II. Not the straightest off the tee but a good putter with an excellent short game he should go well this week with Coral paying 7 places at 1/5 odds.
