Indian Open Tip: Kurt Kitayama

Indian Open Tip: Kurt Kitayama

Last two starts have yielded a win and a T4 finish. Steps up in grade but showed plenty of ability on the Web.com Tour early last season.

Regular readers will know I have an almost unhealthy obsession with the Web.com Tour but I really rate it as a stepping stone into the big league and bookmakers often underrate the players that come off it.

Usually Web.com alumni find there way onto the PGA Tour but Kurt Kitayama didn’t have much playing status Stateside and has instead earned himself a card on the Asian Tour. It seems to have suited the 25-year-old because two starts back he won the Darulaman Championship on the Asian Development Tour and backed it up with a T4 at the New Zealand Open.

This isn’t a complete shock because the American showed some game early during the 2017 Web.com Tour season, with top-25 finishes in the Bahamas Great Abaco, the Colombia Championship and the Puerto Rico Open. It’s clear that his golf travels!

I’m not convinced the DLF course is suited to the big hitting Kitayama as last year’s leaderboard was full of nudgers but the bookmakers don’t know what to make of him with Paddy Power going 125/1 and 6 places at 1/5 odds.
