Desert Classic Tip: Roberto Castro

Is 5/5 in cuts made at this tournament and three seasons ago he made it all the way to the Tour Championship. Rarely misses a cut and excellent approach play lends itself to these courses.

Roberto Castro isn’t what you’d call prolific, he is still looking for his first win in 226 starts but this was a player who made it to the Tour Championship at the end of the 2016 season and he is on the way back.

After a pretty wretched 2017 campaign, he spent last season on the Web.com Tour and that gave him the opportunity to rebuild his game and his confidence. He made 13/14 cuts and earned his playing rights through the Finals Series.

This is his first start of the calendar year but in the wrap-around season he’s finished 53-5-51-59; gaining 58% of the earnings he made in the entire 16/17 season.

His excellent approach play lends itself to La Quinta and the surrounding courses and his results here have been solid. He is 5/5 in cuts made at this event with finishes of 42-37-25-56-50. The format and venues have been tweaked over the year but Castro is overpriced on the pick of his old form.
