CareerBuilder Challenge Tip: Stephan Jaeger

The CareerBuilder challenge has toughened up since the switch in courses, with last year’s winning score of 20-under the highest since it turned into a four-round tournament. No longer purely a putting competition, there has to be some ball-striking skill as well and that leads me nicely into Stephen Jaeger.

A year ago you’d have struggled to convince me that he was anything other than a great putter and flat-track bully but perhaps unfairly pigeon-holed by his 58 at the Ellie Mae Classic, there is much more to his game.

He won twice on the Web.com Tour in 2017, including at the Rust-Oleum Championship which is played at the testing Ivanhoe Club. The German has progressed well onto the PGA Tour with finishes of 30-51-20-MC-29-54 during the wrap-around season.

At the RSM Classic, he hit 84% of GIRs and was let down by a cold putter. Once that heats up he will make an impact because the game is there tee-to-green. Back him at 250/1 with Coral and get 7 places at 1/5 odds.
