Honda Classic Tips: Chris Kirk

Has struggled with the putter this year but that will be less of an issue at PGA National. Finished T12 last year.

With two wins on tour last season, Chris Kirk was one of the breakout stars in America but the bookmakers have quickly forgotten his exploits.

At Pebble Beach a fortnight ago, Kirk missed his first cut in seven starts but a score of 4-under was respectable especially when you consider he was -2.965 for strokes gained putting.

The flat stick has been a problem all year for Kirk. In three of his last four tournaments, he has lost shots to the field on the greens and it is a measure of his iron play that he’s still managing respectable finishes.

PGA National is primarily a test tee-to-green and that has suited Kirk in the past, his record at the Honda Classic is an encouraging T29-T56-T51-T12.

I doubt the 29-year-old has lost the winning knack and at 70/1 (Stan James) is a good each-way bet.
