Home Comforts Can Help Westwood

Early exit in the WGC Match Play can be overlooked because he has three top-10s in his last four visits to PGA National.

Lee Westwood has endured a difficult start to the season. He dispensed with the services of Shane Foley and got hammered by Harris English at the WGC Match Play, but he’s come back from adversity before.

The Honda Classic therefore arrives at exactly the right time. Not only is PGA National one of Westwood’s favourite courses, it is also his ‘home’ tournament now that he lives in Palm Beach Gardens.

The familiarity of the course and surroundings can help Westwood find his game because in the last four years he’s finished T9-T29-4-T9.

I was impressed by his T20 at the Northern Trust Open a fortnight ago and I wouldn’t be too critical of his WGC defeat because freak results occur in match play.

The Englishman doesn’t win nearly as often as he should but at 50/1 there is enough value to make an each-way play, especially with Betfred paying 6 places.
