Don’t Throw Out The Stewart Cink

Led after the first round at the Farmers Insurance Open and glimmers of his major winning form returning.

Stewart Cink is remembered as the man who ruined the 2009 Open Championship by beating Tom Watson in a play-off.

The manner of victory must have affected his form because the Open Championship was the last tournament he won of any kind. But after a couple of lean years Cink has started to find some form and there might be one big win left in the locker.

The 40-year-old finished T11 in the CIMB Classic but was only three shots off the lead starting the final round. He followed up with a T20 at the Sony Open and was leading the Farmers Insurance Open after a first round 64.

Cink doesn’t have a spectacular record at the Honda Classic but he has made the cut in his last three appearances and the course set-up should suit; PGA National has hosted a major championship and is a severe test when the wind blows.

All these factors play to Stewart Cink’s strengths and at 250/1 (Ladbrokes) he is a lively each-way bet.
