Gran Canaria Open: Johannes Veerman

Two top-20s already this season and ranks high on tour for scoring average. Finished T8 at a similair venue (resort/coastal) in the Portugal Masters.

The Gran Canaria Open is a new event on the European Tour and although there is not much info about Meloneras Golf, we know it is a resort course by the sea-side so it shouldn’t be difficult other than the wind. In many respects it it is reminiscent of the Portugal Masters and there might be some similarities between final leaderboards.

Johannes Veerman finished T8 at the Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura and top-20 finishes at the Qatar Masters and Kenya Open (when in contention on Sunday) suggest he is ready to record his first win on tour.

The big hitting American is currently 11th on tour in stroke average having finished 7th for the same metric (from more starts) in 2020. He clearly is a very capable golfer and given the number of greens he hits, he just needs a reasonable week with the putter to contend. This looks course looks a good fit for his game and quotes of 40/1 are very fair.
