Frys.com Open Tips: Tony Finau
Graduated from the Web.com Tour after missing just two cuts in his last 20 starts. Hits it a mile and has the tools to succeed at a higher level.
Tony Finau is one of several players making their debut on the PGA Tour after promotion from the Web.com Tour. A lack of course experience would normally be a disadvantage but Silverado Country Club is new stop for everyone on tour and will act as a leveller.
It’s been a long road for Finau, he turned pro at 17 but the valuable experience he’s gained should help him adapt quickly to his new surroundings.
Having highlighted him as a potential Ryder Cup player, it makes sense to get involved as early as possible before his price collapses.
Last season Finau ranked 9th for scoring average, 14th for putting and 6th for driving distance, so there is no obvious weakness to his game.
Unlike many of his peers, his promotion to the PGA Tour came through consistent golf. He won the Stonebrae Classic in August but more importantly he only missed two cuts in his last 20 tournaments.
