Frys.com Open Tips: Ben Martin
Much improved player who finished second on the Web.com Tour money list. In great form and has course experience, finished T54 in 2011.
By virtue of the Frys.com Open being the first tournament of the new PGA Tour season we have plenty of Web.com tour graduates in the field. Many will be unfamiliar names to bookmakers and punters but this is the time to catch them before markets adjust.
Ben Martin finished second on the Web.com money list but this isn’t his first crack at the big time. In 2011 he had a full season on the PGA Tour after coming through Q-School. Unfortunately he missed more cuts than he made and lost his card, although he did gain valuable course experience finishing T54 at the Frys.com Open.
A return to the Web.com tour afforded him time to hone his game away from the spotlight and he has reaped the rewards this season. He logged eight top-10 finishes from 22 starts with four top-10s in his last seven tournaments.
With barely a fortnight’s break between the end of the old season and start of the new, Ben Martin can continue his good form at CordeValle this week. Back him each-way at 66/1 (Ladbrokes) and get ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
