Traditionally Jimmy Walker’s best results come early in the season and he has three top-10s at this event in his last four visits.
Jimmy Walker disappeared off the radar in the second half of last season and seemed to be really struggling with his game but this is a familiar pattern.
Walker’s five tour wins have all come in a stretch between October and March and he just seems more effective at this time of year.
The omens for the 37-year-old are good. In his last three starts, he has finished T8-T10-T13 and he broke 70 in all four rounds at the Sony Open.
The Farmers Insurance Open arrives at the perfect time and is a tournament where Walker enjoys good results. In his last five visits, he has finished T29-T8-T4-MC-T7.
The onerous South Course is gettable for a player who ranked 21st in driving distance last season and Walker will always gain strokes on the field with his terrific putting. His game is coming together and at 28/1 (Stan James) he is a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
