It’s A Steele

Brendan Steele has found winning difficult of late, his one and only tour victory in 132 starts came at the Valero Texas Open in 2011. He has gone close since but is more of an each-way play when the prices allow.

The Famers Insurance Open features a strong field but that means we get a decent price about Steele especially considering his record at this event. In five visits he has finished T17-MC-T27-T28-T45, which is no surprise because his game is made for Torrey Pines.

Last season Steele finished in the top-20 on tour for driving distance, strokes gained tee-to-green and par-4 scoring average, all key metrics this week on the South course that measures 7,698 yards.

The 32-year-old finished T34 last week but was trending for much better until his final round 74.

Given his course record and terrific driving statistics he is a good each-way bet at 80/1 (Ladbrokes).
