Farmers Insurance Open Tips: Brendan Steele

A sneaky long player who hasn’t missed a cut since July and was runner-up at the recent Humana Challenge.

Brendan Steele never captures much of the limelight but the Californian has carved out a very successful career on the PGA Tour and is often underrated by the bookmakers.

In four visits to Torrey Pines he has finished T17-MC-T27-T28 and he has all the attributes to go well again.

The 31-year-old is a surprisingly long hitter of the ball, he ranked 28th for driving distance last year and his all-round game is solid.

Steele’s last missed cut came at the Open Championship in July and two starts back he was runner-up at the Humana Challenge, so his game is in good shape.

Last year his T28 finish at the Farmers could have been so much better, he ranked T8 for GIRs but 45th in strokes gained putting.

If the flat stick heats up, he could outrun his price of 66/1 (Paddy Power) with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
