Farmers Insurance Open: Cameron Davis

Is 3/3 in cuts made at Torrey Pines and his high (and long) ball-flight makes him a good fit for the course. Finished third last week and should go well on a course that plays to his strengths.

Cameron Davis showed his hand last week with a third place at The American Express but Torrey Pines promises to be an even better fit for the Australian.

The 25-year-old’s course record is 58-57-36, trending in the right direction and stylistically he is good fit. Davis is one of the longest on Tour (20th in driving distance last season) and he makes plenty of birdies (23rd birdie average) but crucially he has one of the highest ball flights on tour.

Torrey Pines isn’t the sort of course where you get much ground assistance, all the hard work has to be done through the air and Davis ranks seventh for apex height off the tee, in good company with Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy ahead of him and Jon Rahm just behind.

He should carry confidence from last week’s good showing and despite being and obvious pick he should go well.
