European Open Tip: Ashley Chesters
Accuracy not power was rewarded 12 months ago and Chesters can improve on his T8. Has been in good form of late and tee-to-green he's been amongst the best.
The Green Eagle Golf Courses hosted the European Open for the first time and it a produced a slightly different leaderboard from normal. Using a single edition as your sample size is dangerous but in the hunt for an edge we have to take a risk.
The winner, Jordan Smith is a straight rather than a long hitter and the same can be said of Siddikur Rahman, Adrian Otaegui and Richie Ramsay who all featured inside the top-10. We can also add Ashley Chesters to the list.
The finished a commendable T8 and had an outside chance of winning if he could have got it going on the back-9 on Sunday. Instead he shot his second consecutive 40 to drop down to eighth.
Currently ranked 15th in driving accuracy and 57th in GIRs its clear what Chesters’s strengths are and these have been on show in recent weeks with finishes of 7-63-21-14-MC in his last five tournaments.
In the Open de France and Irish Open he again ranked inside the top-15 for accuracy and GIRs. Another tough course should help him stay in contention this week.
Boylesports are paying 6 places at 1/5 odds this week.
