The majestic Golf-Club Crans-sur-Sierre hosts the Omega European Masters as we look at the trends of past winners.
The Swiss Alps form the stunning backdrop for the European Masters this week and the unique surroundings lend themselves to course specialists.
There are certain attributes that can point us in the right direction if we examine the winning trends over the last six years.
Top-60 for scoring average
The last six winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for scoring average; the honours board at Crans-sur-Sierre is full of familiar names.
Top-60 in putts per GIR
The average winning score over the last five years has been 19-under, therefore you need to make your fair share of putts to win.
Outside the Top-75 in driving distance
With plenty of twists and turns, Crans-sur-Sierre gives modest hitters a chance and they have thrived in recent years. Not to say a long hitter can’t win, just the value lies with the short hitters who can’t compete every week due to lengthy modern courses.
Made cut at Crans-sur-Sierre within last two years
Crans-sur-Sierre is an idiosyncratic course so it helps if you’ve played it well before. The last six winners all made at least one cut in the two years leading up to their triumphs. Alex Noren last played in 2012 before his win, in part due to injury but had cracked the top-30 on consecutive visits prior to his win
