11th Feb 2014 | Africa Open

Electric Grillo

Finished T10-T9 in the last two Africa Opens and one of the most exciting young golfers on tour.

At only 21 years of age, Emiliano Grillo is one of the most exciting prospects on the European Tour.

Having gained his card in 2012, he has finished in the money in 30/54 starts on tour and looks a winner in waiting.

Last season he ranked fourth on tour for GIRs, 26th for driving accuracy and 30th for driving distance. Unfortunately, the putter is his Achilles’ heel, as he ranked 182nd in putts per GIR.

Normally I’d steer clear of such a poor putter, but remember this kid is just 21 and most weeks he will be looking at greens for the first time in his career.

As he gains more experience his putting will improve and his breakthrough might come in the Africa Open this week.

He has finished T10-T9 in two visits to the East London club and after a second place in the Dubai Desert Classic he looks sure to go close again 25/1 (Betfred)
