Lean Mean Grillo Machine

Led the field for GIRs last year and displayed a similar level of ball-striking in Qatar.

Emiliano Grillo was an unexpected runner-up at the Dubai Desert Classic last year (sent off at 200/1) and although the bookmakers have adjusted his price I don’t think they’ve got a handle on him yet.

The young Argentinean ranked second for GIRs last season and there has been no let up after another dominant display of ball-striking in Qatar.

Grillo made two bogeys all week (both in the first round) and it was the excellence of Grace and Warren that took away the tournament rather than any failures on Grillo’s part.

Being critical, the 22-year-old can be something of a streaky putter and the flat stick let him down in Dubai last year. He ranked first for GIRs but 41st in putts per GIR.

If Grillo can sink a couple more putts he could go close again at 50/1 (BetVictor) with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
