Deutsche Bank Championship Tips: Rory McIlroy
Won here in 2012 and still brilliant tee-to-green just needs an ok week with the putter to contend again.
Rory McIlroy’s season hasn’t gone exactly to plan, there was the high of the Irish Open but he failed to contend in any of the majors and the Playoffs provide a chance to finish on a high.
The world number five’s issues have been on the green. Last week at the Barclays was a case in point. McIlroy gained 8.5 shots on the field tee to green but lost 5.6 strokes putting.
It was the same story at Baltusrol when he missed the cut but this week he returns to a course where he’s won before and that should give him a bit more confidence on the greens.
In truth TPC Boston is more of a test tee-to-green. Eight of the past 13 champions ranked inside top-3 for this metric and Rory McIlroy fits the bill. Back him each-way at 12/1 with Stan James and get ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
