Charles Schwab Challenge: Abraham Ancer

Texan resident whose PGA Tour record in the Lone Star State is 42-49-8-58-42-52-42-59. Ranked 10th in total driving this season and finished a soldid T16 at Bethpage last week.

This week i’m looking for the unusual double of backing the same winner under two nationalities. Back in 2015 I remember cheering home the American Abraham Ancer in the Nova Scotia Open and this time i’ll be toasting the Mexican if he can get the job done.

Nationalities aside it’s Ancer’s golfing history that interests me the most. He was born in McAllen, Texas and currently resides in San Antonio so he is familiar with Texan golf. It is also a region where he’s had a moderate amount of success. Since graduating to the PGA Tour his results in Texas read 42-49-8-58-42-52-42-59.

With seven top-25s in 18 starts it’s been another good season for Ancer and he is playing well enough to win or go close again. Last week he finished T16 at Bethpage Black, a logical result given he’s driven it beautifully this season and ranks 10th in total driving.

Twelve months ago he was on the fringes of a top-10 early into his round on Sunday but then his putter went cold and he lost 3.8 strokes on the field, plummeting down to T52. That masks a decent performance and given his links to the Lone Star State he is worth a small investment.
