Corales Puntacana Resort Tips: Rafael Campos

Corales Puntacana Resort Tips: Rafael Campos

Has experience of playing in this area from his PGA LatinoAmerica days and finished T8 at the Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour.

The Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship is a new tournament on the Web.com Tour and perhaps due its recentness it holds a strange position in the schedule.

The season started with a South/Central America swing and after a couple of tournaments in the US we have a pit stop in the Dominican Republic before the tour settles into a routine back home. The travelling and dramatic change in conditions has the potential to upset the status-quo therefore it pays to looks beyond the obvious form players.

Those with experience of playing in South/Central America on the LatinoAmerica tour are at an advantage and I like the chances of Rafael Campos.

Last season he finished third on the money list and has quickly adapted to the step up in grade. The 28-year-old is yet to threaten a win on tour but he’s made 6/8 cuts and has been consistent with five top-40 finishes.

The eye-catching result came on the PGA Tour where Campos finished T8 at the Puerto Rico Open, his home event. That result got him into the following week’s Houston Open where he again made the cut and finished a respectable T38.

Those results are a huge confidence boost and it won’t take much for him to challenge for a win, especially in familiar surroundings.

Campos has played the Dominican Republic Open on numerous occasions and finished T29 at Cana Bay Golf Club in 2013, just north of Corales. At 150/1 (Coral) he is an exciting each-way prospect.
