Colombia Championship Tips: Denny McCarthy

Finished T30 last year and made both cuts after difficult starts in the Bahamas.

The Bahamas is a beautiful place to spend a fortnight, but perhaps not if you are playing golf battered by 40mph winds! Denny McCarthy seemed to get the worst of the draw in both events but battled back from opening rounds of 80 (Exuma Classic) and 77 (Abaco Classic) to make the cut and finish T39-T63.

There are plenty of positives to salvage from the wreckage and could point to a big season for 23-year-old. A talented amateur, he was in the top-10 of the world rankings and played on a winning Eisenhower Trophy Team and a losing Walker Cup team as well as finishing T42 at the 2015 US Open.

The pedigree is there and we saw plenty of his ability on the Web.com Tour last season. McCarthy made 15/21 cuts and finished T30 in Bogota after opening with a round of 66.

One of the best drivers on tour (ranked 22nd in total driving last season), Bogota CC sets up well for his game and I expect him to be a lot shorter than 125/1 (Paddy Power) for the remainder of the season.
