CIMB Classic Tips: Jeff Overton

Started the new season with two top-20 finishes and has a good record on paspalum greens. Runner-up in 2011.

Jeff Overton is still looking for his first PGA Tour win in 215 starts but given his current form, it could come in this week’s CIMB Classic.

In a reduced field with no cut, his chances automatically increase because he has fewer players to beat but he also arrives in excellent form. Consecutive top-20 finishes means he has already matched last season’s total just two weeks into the embryonic 2013-14 season.

Although this will be the first time Overton has played the Kuala Lumpur course, he’s proven capable of replicating his form in foreign conditions. He was runner-up in the 2011 CIMB Classic and finished T16 last year.

The seashore paspalum greens shouldn’t pose a problem either. The same grass is used at the Puerto Rico Open, a tournament where Overton has enjoyed three top-15 finishes in his last three starts.

The CIMB Classic could be where Jeff Overton gains his long overdue win and at 50/1 (Boylesports) he has an each-way chance with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
