CIMB Classic Tip: Jason Dufner
Excellent iron player who just needs a few putts to drop. Big price considering he is a winner on tour this calendar year.
Jason Dufner enjoyed a consistent 2016/17 season making 21/24 cuts and winning the Memorial, after trying to throw it away in the third round. A mercurial character he battles with the putter but his ball-striking in never in doubt.
Last season he ranked 16th in strokes gained with approaches to the green and he is a similair type of player to past champions Ryan Moore and Justin Thomas who fire at pins with laser like accuracy.
It’s difficult to win a tournament with ball-striking alone, some putts have to find the bottom of the hole but Dufner is capable. He was a runner-up at the 2012 HSBC Champions and has form in Asia; this is winnable.
