4th Mar 2014 | Puerto Rico Open

Chris Stroud Can Win Soon

Has five top-20 finishes already this season and his first tour win doesn’t look far away.

The Puerto Rico Open has a fascinating mix of PGA Tour and European Tour professionals and it will be interesting to see how they compare.

After his disaster at the Africa Open I hope Emiliano Grillo rebounds quickly but I’m afraid the head rules the heart and he is overlooked in favour of more experienced tour members.

My first selection is relatively straightforward - this is exactly the sort of tournament Chris Stroud should be winning.

The 32-year-old is getting ever closer to his first tour title. He went close in the Travelers Championship, eventually losing in a playoff and has two T3 finishes in the 2013/14 wraparound season.

Crucially one of those T3s came at the Mayakoba Classic, another seaside course with Paspalum greens.

I expect Mayakoba form will translate well at Rio Grande, he finished T18 last year and at 20/1 (Bet365) he is a rock solid each-way option.
