Canadian Open Tips: Bryce Molder

Lack of distance off the tee not a factor with four short par-5s this week. Has made 9 of last 10 cuts.

It has been almost five years since Bryce Molder recorded his one and only PGA Tour win at the Frys.com but can scarcely have been in better form than he is now.

The Barracuda Championship was the first time he missed the cut in 10 starts on the PGA Tour and during that run he registered four top-15 finishes.

The 37-year-old’s strength is his short game. He leads the field in strokes gained around the green and is 11th in strokes gained putting. Where Molder loses strokes is off the tee but that might not be a problem this week.

The four par-5s at Glen Abbey are all short by modern standards, the longest is a modest 558 yards. The challenge is finding the fairway as two of them have carries over water to reach the green.

Molder ranks inside the top-20 for par-3 and par-4 scoring average on tour but only 76th on par-5s. That comparative weakness will be negated this week because even the shortest hitters should be able to reach in two.

With a T16 finish at Glen Abbey in 2009, he has course form to call upon and is an excellent bet at 100/1 (Ladbrokes).
