Canadian Open Tip: J.J. Spaun

Made his name in Canada and is capable of going very low when the putter heats up. Form trending in the right direction with finishes of T47-T27-T13.

J.J. Spaun made his name in Canada winning the Mackenzie Tour’s money list in 2015, a season in which he toured Canada shooting rounds in the 60s almost every week. His ball-striking has seen him progress to the PGA Tour where he comfortably holds his won amongst the worlds best.

Now fully recovered from an earlier injury, he has made his last three cuts trending in the right direction with finishes of T47-T27-T13. Currently ranked 38th in strokes gained tee-to-green, it is fair to say Spaun hasn’t made the most of his opportunities, losing strokes to the field putting.

Spaun will need to go deep into the red at Glen Abbey this week but the greens aren’t difficult with the course yielding a higher birdie conversion rate than average. His record at the course is a modest T41-MC but a shootout is in his favour after posting 17-under and 19-under respectively at the RSM Classic and Bryon Nelson on the way to top-3 finishes.

Coral are offering Spaun at 100/1 with 7 places at 1/5 odds.
