Byron Nelson Tips: Jimmy Walker

Started the season with three quick-fire wins but recent top-10 finishes in big tournaments suggests he can live up to his elevated status.

Having started the season with three wins in eight starts many thought Jimmy Walker was just enjoying a purple patch.

I don’t believe his wins were just a run of ‘good form’. There’s been a step-change in his game and he deserves to be ranked amongst the very best.

Arguably, his most impressive performances have been his most recent. Walker finished T8 on his debut at Augusta and although he was rusty at Quail Hollow after 3 weeks off, he followed up with a T6 at the Players Championship.

At one stage on Thursday afternoon he was in danger of missing the cut having shot a fairly abject 41 back nine. To his credit he made the weekend and was 12-under for his final 54 holes.

The 35-year-old is a late developer but don’t let that put you off. He deserves to be vying for favouritism, therefore at 20/1 (William Hill) he rates as an excellent each-way bet.
