Byron Nelson Trends

HP Byron Nelson

Jordan Spieth is just one of the star names in a decent line-up for the Byron Nelson. We look at the trends of past winners.

The Byron Nelson Championship takes place on the TPC at the Four Seasons resort, its host since 1994. It is worth noting that prior to 2008 the tournament was played over two courses at the Four Seasons resort - the TPC and Cottonwood Valley Course. Therefore, trends witnessed in the last nine renewals of the Byron Nelson are the strongest.

These are the trends needed to win the Byron Nelson based on the last nine champions:

Top-60 on tour for adjusted scoring average
TPC at Four Seasons ranked the fourth most difficult par-70 course on tour in 2012. Seven of the last nine winners have ranked inside the top-60 for adjusted scoring average.

Top-70 on tour for birdie average
There are plenty of hazards all over the course, with dropped shots inevitable. To triumph you have to make birdies, with the last nine winners ranking inside the top-70 for birdie average.

Top-60 on tour for ‘all-around-ranking’
TPC at Four Seasons is a thorough test of a golfer’s all-round ability. It is long, fairways and greens are difficult to hit and there are plenty of hazards lurking around each corner. It’s no surprise that eight of the last nine winners all featured in the PGA Tour’s top-60 ‘all-around ranking’.
