Open Championship Tips: Hideki Matsuyama
One of the top young talents in the game. A recent winner on the PGA Tour and finished T6 on his Open debut last year.
Hideki Matsuyama has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the rankings in the last 18 months and I’m convinced the world number 15 is the real deal.
We saw with Jordan Spieth at the Masters age is no barrier and Matsuyama is another young tyro ready to make his mark.
In fairness to the 22-year-old, he is already established in the top echelon of the game. He won four times on the Japan Tour last year and made a seamless transition to the PGA Tour.
At the start of June, he beat a strong field to win the Memorial Tournament and a major championship is the next step.
Matsuyama finished T6 on his Open debut last year; we should therefore snap up the 66/1 (Bet365) with ¼ odds for a top-7 finish.
