Open Championship Tip: Emiliano Grillo

Played Carnoustie three times in Dunhill Links shooting rounds of 67,71,66 by far best score on three courses used in rotation. Finished T12 at Royal Troon in 2016.

Emiliano Grillo doesn’t have a tremendous amount of Open Championship experience but he finished T12 on debut at Royal Troon and has established himself as one of the best ball-strikers on the planet.

The 25-year-old has missed his last four cuts in majors but prior to that he was 6/6 and he’s shown some good form on the PGA Tour of late. An excellent third at the Fort Worth Invitational, he has five top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season and is riding high in a whole slew of metrics.

The Argentine is ranked in the top-20 on tour for driving accuracy, GIRs, birdie average, scoring average and most importantly strokes gained putting - something that had traditionally been his weakness.

Although light on Open Championship experience and therefore links golf, he has done well in similair conditions across the globe. Grillo finished T5 at the 2015 Qatar Masters and his record in the Dunhill Links Championship is 29-MC-42, when he was a shadow of the player he is now. Encouragingly his rounds at Carnoustie were 67, 71, 66 far better than his scores at St. Andrews and Kingsbarns.

Expereience around Carnoustie could prove invaulable this week and he has the game to contend in a major. At 175/1 (Bet365) he is a cracking bet with 8 places at 1/5 odds.
