Open Championship: Marc Leishman

Gone close in two Opens and enjoying a career year. Won the Arnold Palmer back in March and ranked 4th in adjusted scoring average.

Marc Leishman has gone close in a couple of Open Championships, most memorably when losing in a playoff at St. Andrews in 2015 but he has paid his dues and is now ready to win a major.

Winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March can’t be underestimated. It’s a big tournament and was his first PGA Tour win in almost five years, giving him the confidence that he can get over the line when against the world’s best.

The 33-year-old has carried on his good form for almost the entire season and he’s starting to get hot again. His last five starts have produced finishes of 31-15-27-17-5 and is trending in the right direction.

Leishman’s ability to alter his ball-flight is a huge advantage around a links course and his overall statistical profile on the PGA Tour this season is excellent. He ranks in the top-30 for strokes gained tee-to-green and putting and is fourth in adjusted scoring average. When combined with his Open record he should be higher in the betting.
