British Masters Tips: Shane Lowry

Tee-to-green he is in good shape and has an excellent record in England. Runner up at the British Masters last year and has four top-15 finishes at Wentworth.

When looking back on this year’s majors one abiding memory is Dustin Johnson overcoming a shambolic ruling by the USGA to triumph at Oakmont. Unfortunately, the fall-guy at the US Open was Shane Lowry who squandered a four-shot lead on Sunday.

The defeat clearly hurt because it precipitated a collapse in form with his next five starts yielding finishes of T36-MC-MC-MC-MC. A return to Europe seems to have been the reset the Irishman needed and there is still an opportunity for him to finish the season on a high.

At the Made In Demark there were signs of his game returning. He finished T24 but his ball striking was on-song as he ranked in the top-10 in driving accuracy and GIRs. Lowry built on that performance with a T18 at the Dunhill Links, improving his ball-striking further so that he ranked in the top-5 for driving accuracy and GIRs.

The putter isn’t quite behaving as he would like but his record on some of England’s premier parkland courses is impressive. He has four top-15 finishes at Wentworth in seven starts and was runner-up at the British Masters last year.

The tournament moves venues to the Grove for the 2016 renewal but there is every indication Lowry will go well at 25/1 (Betfred).
