BMW International Open Tips: Michael Hoey

Sixth for GIRs on last two starts suggest he is swinging club well. Finished T22 at Gut Lärchenhof in 2014

Michael Hoey’s form this year has been largely abject but there’s been positive signs of late and we shouldn’t forget he is a 5-time winner on tour.

The Northern Irishman ended a string of 11 missed cuts with a T41 at the Nordea Masters and built on that performance with a T31 at the Lyoness Open.

Arguably he deserved more from those two events because in Sweden he ranked sixth for GIRs but putted poorly. His ball-striking was on-song in Austria as he again ranked sixth for GIRs and although his putting improved he still ranked 46th in putts per GIR.

The good news is Hoey’s creating opportunities and it is probably only a matter of time before he converts them.

Last season he finished T7 at the BMW International Open and was T22 at Gut Lärchenhof in 2014. He can go well at 300/1 (Boylesports)
