BMW Championship Tip: Tiger Woods

Limited field means he has fewer plays to beat (albeit of high quality) and best results this season have come on course where you have to think your way round.

With all the noise that inevitably surrounds Tiger Woods i’ve waited until there was a strong body of evidence before drawing any conclusions, especially when betting money is involved but now is the time to pull the trigger.

Tiger has gone close in the last two majors and has three top-6 finishes in his last three starts and although getting over the line is the hardest thing in golf a limited field means he has few people to beat.

The BMW Championship moves to Aronimink Golf Club host of the AT&T National in 2010 and 2011 and this Donald Ross designed course is something of a classic. It is not long by modern standards but undulations, doglegs and challenging pin locations means you must plot your way around this course.

All this favours the Tiger versions 3.0. Ranked fourth on tour for approaches to the greens, his long game has been excellent and his second place at the Valspar Championship could be the key bit of form. Early into his comeback he played exceptionally well at the Copperhead Course another venue where you have to plot rather than bludgeon your way round and these seem to be the type of venues where Tiger gains an edge nowadays.

Betfred are paying 6 places at 1/5 odds.
