Bermuda Championship: Tyler McCumber
Ranked in top-10 strokes gained off the tee on way to T28 at Houston and starting to find form again. Finished fourth in the Bahamas earlier this year in similar conditions.
After three weeks sat on the sidelines, those with a lower PGA Tour status get to play some golf with the inaugural Bermuda Championship. Regular golf watchers will remember Port Royal Golf Course from when it used to host the Grand Slam Of Golf but otherwise clues are thin on the ground.
What we do know is this is a seaside golf course played on an island in the middle of the Atlantic. The weather forecast is good but we can expect golfers to contend with some wind. In many ways this reminds me of the two tournaments in the Bahamas that kick-off the Korn Ferry Tour and that is my starting point.
Tyler McCumber started the year with finishes of T37-T4 in the Bahamas and after a quiet summer he’s starting to find form again. In four starts on the PGA Tour he’s finished 47-MC-66-28 and he impressed tee-to-green at the Houston Open.
The 28-year-old is one of the longest hitters on tour but he also knows how to close out tournaments with 6 professional wins in 118 starts. Last season he finished third at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Championship and we are on a Robert Trent Jones designed course this week. All these little positives make him a great bet at 125/1 with Coral paying 7 places at 1/5 odds.
