Belgian Knockout Tip: Marcus Armitage

Played better than T41 position last week; led the field in putts per round. Firepower and aggression might payoff over these short 9-hole matches.

The Belgian Knockout is a new event and the European Tour are experimenting again with the format. The first 36 holes are classic strokeplay with a cut establishing the top-64. Over the weekend these players compete in 9-hole stroke-play knockout matches until there is an eventual winner.

With all that established i’m sticking with the player I backed last week. Not out of laziness but because Marcus Armitage caught the eye on several occasions. On Friday afternoon he put himself into contention and then got hot early on Sunday. Both times he was undone by 9 poor holes of golf but i’m a glass half-full type of chap so lets concentrate on the good nine, after all that’s all he needs!

The Englishman led the field in putts per round in Sicily last week and he’s long off the tee. In a quickfire tournament that might be enough to get the job done.
