Reno-Tahoe Open Tips: Aaron Watkins

source: callawaygolf.com

Rarely makes the cut but when he does he tends to finish high up the leaderboard. One of the best putters in the field.

For my final selection in the Reno-Tahoe Open I’m taking a flyer with Aaron Watkins at 250/1.

The 31-year-old from Florida is a name people won’t be familiar with, not helped by the fact he rarely makes the weekend of tournaments, but at his best he’s got some game.

Last year he finished T15 at the US Open and he has two top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, both of them coming at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the most recent of which came in April.

He’s not particularly long and struggles to find GIRs but he can score because he’s an excellent putter. Ranked 22nd for strokes gained putting; he can do some damage if he enjoys a good ball striking round.

In a weak field, playing an unusual format, there are enough positives to back Aaron Watkins each-way at 250/1 (Bet365), with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
