Bahamas Great Exuma Classic Tip: Abraham Ancer

Bahamas Great Exuma Classic Tip: Abraham Ancer

Finished T55 in the OHL Classic on another Greg Norman designed seaside course and place T14 at Q-School.

The Web.com Tour season follows the Gregorian calendar and the 2017 edition begins in the Bahamas this week. Not afraid to innovate, the tournament starts on Sunday and finishes on Wednesday which means US golf fans have 7 days’ worth of televised golf to enjoy.

The field for the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic has a mix of bright young things and PGA Tour veterans dropping down a grade and it’s the latter camp I’m interested in this week.

The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic is played on the Sandals Emerald Bay resort course, designed by Greg Norman. A relatively new course, it feels part of the headland as it snakes along the coast and the use of Seashore Paspalum grass means it has plenty in common with the OHL Classic.

El Camaleon Golf Club in Mayakoba (OHL Classic host) was also designed by Greg Norman and uses Seashore Paspalum therefore we immediately have an obvious form lines. Of those in the field this week that played the OHL Classic in November, Abraham Ancer did best finishing T55 and his upturn in fortunes have continued.

The 25-year-old really struggled on the PGA Tour last season missing his first nine cuts but there were signs he was getting to grips with the higher level of competitions as he made 5/10 cuts to finish the season.

A previous winner on the Web.com Tour (2015 Nova Scotia Open), he should feel more comfortable at this level and finished an encouraging T14 at Q-School in December. At 125/1 (Paddy Power), he is a big price.
