Pebble Beach Pro-Am Tips: Phil Mickelson

Pebble Beach Pro-Am Tips: Phil Mickelson

4-time winner at Pebble Beach and has come back well from a hernia operation, with three consecutive top-25s.

You have to go back to the 2013 Open Championship to find the last time Phil Mickelson won a tournament; it seems like a long time but he’s playing well enough to win again.

His performance at Royal Troon would have been good enough to win most Opens but unfortunately he found an inspired Henrik Stenson in his path. That was Mickelson’s 2016 in a microcosm, plenty of good golf but no wins.

Pebble Beach was another classic example. Twelve months ago, he looked the winner for most of Sunday only for Vaughn Taylor to surge through the field and win by one.

Mickelson’s working his way back from a sports hernia operation in the off-season but the signs are encouraging. In three starts this year he’s finished T21-T14-T16 and is getting better with every round. He is a four-time winner of this tournament and looks set for another good week at 22/1 (Paddy Power) with 1/4 odds for a top-7 finish.
