Arnold Palmer Tips: Bubba Watson

Nothing worse than T18 this season. Leads the tour in driving distance and GIRs.

After picking up two wins on tour in 2011, following his maiden victory in 2010, Bubba Watson now looks like the type of player you can bank on getting at least one win per season. He has come close already in 2012, with a second place in the Cadillac Championship and T5 at Phoenix. At 33/1 (William Hill) it is time to capitalise on that good form.

Leading the PGA Tour in driving distance and GIRs, he has a formidable set of stats to his name. Often unfairly pigeonholed as a one dimensional ‘grip-it and rip-it’ golfer, he is far better than that moniker. He has finished no worse that T18 this season having played on a variety of courses, offering vastly differing challenges.

Last year at Bay Hill, Bubba was T3 going into the final round until a 78 dropped him to T24 on Sunday. After spending the week in Orlando getting ready for the tournament, I would be shocked if he didn’t feature high on the leaderboard again. Back him each-way at 33/1 (William Hill) and get ¼ odds for a top-five finish.
