Send For Hend

Late bloomer who is playing the best golf of his career. Won in Hong Kong in October, his fourth victory in two years.

Scott Hend turned professional in 1997 but four of his 11 career wins have come in the last two years. It is no coincidence his upturn in fortunes has coincided with Tony Carolan, a former Asian Tour player, taking over caddying duties.

The 41-year-old’s biggest win came most recently in Hong Kong, he held off a good field to triumph in a playoff.

That victory has opened numerous doors, including exemption on the European Tour, which is why we see him in Abu Dhabi this week. The Australian is one of the longest hitters around, therefore the 7,600-yard test plays to his strengths.

Hend also has the benefit that he arrives with plenty of golf under his belt. Since his win in Hong Kong he’s finished T2-T26-T9-MC-T7-5 on the Asian Tour.

He could hit the ground running and make a mockery of his 125/1 (Paddy Power) quote, with 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
