Abu Dhabi Tips: Thorbjorn Olesen
Made a mess of the 54th hole in the Tour Championship, an event he could have won. Can make amends in Abu Dhabi where he has two top-10s in three starts.
Thorbjorn Olesen was our last European Tour tip in 2014 and he is our first in 2015.
The 25-year-old is over the injuries that hampered his early progress and finished 2014 in excellent form with a win in Perth and a T6 at the HSBC Champions event.
The young Dane had the opportunity to round off the year in fine style in the Tour Championship but it all went wrong on the 54th hole.
Olesen found the water twice on the birdieable par-5 and ended up carding a double bogey when he should have been the clubhouse leader.
That finish seemed to sap his confidence and he couldn’t make a putt on Sunday, eventually limping in with a tie for 12th.
Nevertheless, for 53 holes we saw the potential of Olesen, he hits it a country mile but also has a solid short game.
He has two top-10 finishes in Abu Dhabi including when runner-up in 2013 and is a decent each-way bet at 35/1 (Sportingbet) with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
