Abu Dhabi Championship Winning Trends

The European Tour starts the desert swing with a high quality field in Abu Dhabi. We look at the trends of past winners.

For many European Tour pros the 2019 season gets under way in Abu Dhabi with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson joined by Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka.

This is the 15th year Abu Dhabi Golf Club has hosted the event and it is a course that has created repeat winners with Martin Kaymer and Paul Casey having won five times between them.

Top-60 on tour in putts per GIR
Measuring 7,600 yards the course is a brute but the championship is still decided on the greens. Nine of the last eleven winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour in putts per GIR.

Top-60 on tour for GIRs
Ten of the last thirteen winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for GIRs, with surprise winners Gary Stal and Pablo Larrazabal missing out. Defending champion Shane Lowry was 20th on the European Tour for GIRs last season.
