Australian GP Tips: Sergio Perez

Managed 213 laps in the final Bahrain test session, clocking the sixth fastest lap. Has a point to prove after a difficult year at McLaren.

In light of the extensive rule changes this year it’s worth taking a chance on the old order being reversed at the Australian GP.

The availability of testing times has seen Mercedes and Williams shorten for the opening race with Red Bull moving in the opposite direction. However, Force India have flown under the radar.

In Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez, the team have two fast drivers both with points to prove. Very little separated the pair in testing at Bahrain with Hulkenberg edging the first session and Perez fighting back in the second.

Their aggregate times are good enough for top-10 finishes at the very least but there might be a bit more to come, especially from Perez who completed 213 laps in the second session; only Valtteri Bottas managed more.

The Mexican had a tough time at McLaren last year, hung out to dry whenever he made a mistake. I hope he feels the love at Force India because he is a talented driver and a big price at 50/1 (Betfred) to win in Australia.

Back Perez each-way and get 1/5 odds for a top-3 finish.
