Top Scorer in Group G: Ronaldo

We’ll look at the merits of whether Cristiano Ronaldo can win the Golden Boot elsewhere, but at odds of 10/3 (Ladbrokes) he definitely looks like a great shout to top score in World Cup Group G.

Let’s start with the easy parts. Nobody from Ghana or USA should threaten the Real Madrid star in this department, and neither should any of his Portugal teammates. That leaves the not inconsiderable threat of the Germans. Joachim Low has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal. Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, Marco Reus, Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski - it’s a terrifying list but my gut feeling is they will share the goalscoring responsibilities around.

This is not something that any team with Ronaldo as its focal point ever does. The 29-year-old has just found the net an astounding 51 times in 47 outings for the new European champions. He also scored ten for Portugal in 2013 including four over two matches against Sweden in the playoffs. Ronaldo is World Player of the Year for a reason and we should take this wager on.
