Switzerland v France Tip

Didier Deschamps' boys impressed against Honduras, but it was a very easy game as it panned out. The Swiss are ranked much higher and may just show why on Friday.

France may have impressed against 10-man Honduras but they can’t justify best odds of 17/20 (BetVictor) to win their second match. Arguably Switzerland are the best side in Group E, and I’m delighted to take a market-leading price of 4/1 (Betfred) on the upset here.

Ranked sixth in the world, Ottmar Hitzfeld’s boys qualified unbeaten and other than a bizarre 4-4 draw with Iceland, only conceded two goals in their other nine matches. Ecuador gave Switzerland a scare on Sunday, but the Europeans showed character and stamina to come back and win the game deep into stoppage time.

Les Bleus needed the playoffs to reach Brazil and against better opponents than Honduras, they will surely miss injured talisman Franck Ribery. That first game did look easy but then again you can’t always rely upon a penalty, an own goal and a red card going your way!

Switzerland were the last team to beat Brazil and at the very least we will learn how good the French really are in Salvador.
